Applying Line Marking Paint in Your Warehouse: 3 Steps You Should Take

Business Blog

If your company operates a warehouse, it is vital that different areas of the floor space are clearly marked. For example, you may wish to paint rectangles on the ground to indicate areas which should be used to stack goods. You may also wish to create lanes down which forklift trucks should drive. You may also wish to paint hatching on areas where vehicles and goods should not be parked to allow access or for safety reasons. Line marking machines can help you create different areas. Below is a guide to 3 steps you should take before paint lines on the floor of your warehouse.

Choose the right line marking product

The first step you will need to take is to select the right type of line marking project for your project. The type of paint you choose will affect the durability or performance of the paint.

If you have a low budget, spray paint is probably your best option. This can be easily and quickly applied using templates. However, while this option is low cost because it involves applying a thin layer of paint, the lines will typically fade away as the wheels of forklift trucks and people's feet pass over them.

If you have a larger budget, you may wish to opt for solvent-based paint, which is produced using oils. This type of paint is long lasting and highly durable which makes it ideal for warehouse settings. Solvent paint is normally applied using a marking machine, which offers higher levels of accuracy compared to paint applied using stencils.

Ensure the floor is in good condition

The floor of a warehouse can take a real beating as forklift trucks drive over it and heavy pallets of goods are stored for long periods in one place. Before you begin painting lines on the floor of your warehouse, you should carefully inspect its condition. Any paint which is applied to damaged parts of the floor is likely to begin to flake away. If you notice any damaged areas of flooring, you should take steps to have these repaired. Once these have been repaired, it is essential that the concrete or resin used to repair the floor is completely cured before line painting begins.

Make sure the floor is clean

Once you are happy that the floor of the warehouse is in good condition, you should make sure that it has been brushed and vacuumed before painting begins. Doing so will remove any dust and debris which has collected on the floor. If you do not do this, it could compromise the ability of the paint to bond with the floor surface.
